#SaveFunaab: Funaab Students Protesting Against Lack of Security | OneStudent Allegedly Killed by Police

Students of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) have taken to the streets to protest against lack of security in the areas surrounding the school. According to unverified reports on Twitter, a student was shot dead by the Police during the protest.
The students complained of incessant robbery and rape by hoodlums in the school environment. This is coming less than 24 hours after the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) invited the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Olusola Oyewole alongside the University Bursar, Moses Ilesanmi over an alleged case of Abuse of Office and misappropriation of funds reported against the Management, the University Pro Chancellor and some members of the Governing Council.
According to the petition submitted to the EFCC by the Concerned Stakeholders of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, it was alleged that the Pro Chancellor and the Vice Chancellor engaged in an “unbridled corruption and betrayal of public trusts”.

News has it that morning, some hostels were robbed and people were badly injured, so the students in that area decided to do a peaceful protest and they blocked the road. All they needed was for the commissioner of police to hear them out and do something.
We have a major police station close to our school yet nothing has been done about our security. Our VC says he’s not responsible for students staying off campus.
Well, the students at camp area also decided to join in the protest and to me I think they took it too far by blocking Abeokuta-Ibadan expressway. Policemen came, threatened with tear gas, when they saw students would not bulge, they opened fire. One student is dead at the moment. So the students proceeded to the Vc’s church at Obantoko road and burnt down his bus. Its a total road-block here in FUNAAB as Concerned students come out in mass to make known their grievances regarding the incessant robberies and students-assault.
It is recalled that a 400L student was matcheted on the head two weeks ago during ROKIOHOSTEL-BURST,he was a dying survivor.
Also,PAPA’S LODGE fell victim where they carted away loads of personal belongings.

Report also has it that for close to 2weeks students have been rushed to the school clinics as a result of merchant cut from robbers that rapped in the school hostel. The last one occurred on Saturday in which student had to be transferred to the Federal Medical center Idi Aba Abeokuta.
